Second Wind Contracting advised this morning that they will be working on restoring the swale behind Overture and Orchestra today, Wednesday, August 27. They will also working on replacing a storm drain behind 114 Opera Ct. 

They begin the maintenance work on Pond 2 and Pond 3 beginning on Thursday, August 28 and Friday, August 29. This work will involve cutbacks and the removal of invasive vegetation in and around the ponds.

The purpose of this effort is to enhance the overall health and functionality of the pond ecosystems. Invasive plant species can rapidly outcompete native vegetation for resources such as nutrients, sunlight, and habitat. Their presence can lead to a decline in native plant and animal populations and disrupt the natural balance of the ecosystem.

Benefits of removing invasive vegetation include:

• Improved water quality: Invasive plants can contribute to excess nutrients in the water, promoting harmful algal blooms that reduce oxygen levels and threaten aquatic life. Their removal helps improve water clarity and overall pond health.
