Introduction to Mono Printing with a Gel Plate

Taught by Kathy Coppersmith

Thursday, November 6th

Craft Room   10-noon

In this class you will explore mono-printing on a gelli plate. It is aptly named “mono” printing because it is impossible to create the same exact print again. We will create amazing and unique papers using acrylic paint layers in vibrant colors.  A variety of textured items and stencils will be used in the process. The completed papers can be used in collage art, card making, gift tags, die cuts, and more. Examples of what they can be used for will be displayed. Caution to the attendee: You may become addicted to this process and art. You may never look at a potato masher or the bottom of a sneaker in the same way again! J

Supplies

This combination demo/hands on class includes all supplies needed and you will take several samples home with you.  There is no cost as all necessary paints and papers to use in the class will be supplied by Judi and Pat.

If you do want to bring additional supplies this is what Kathy recommends

Acrylic paints: variety of 2oz. bottles of acrylic paints by Folk Art or Deco Art or other quality brands (NOT Apple Barrell as it is cheap and watery). 3-4 bottles: of your favorite colors, include some opposites on the color wheel. (ie: Teal and Coral (blue and orange), Pink and Sage green (red and green), lilac and yellow (purple and yellow). Paints can be shared for variety as only a few drops are needed per paper created. Mark your names on the bottles you bring.

Paper: White cardstock. White printer paper, old book pages, deli paper (on amazon 12X12”) older unwanted scrapbook papers any size. I will provide other papers and supplies. Please bring plenty as the process of practicing uses a lot of paper!

Texture item: Bring one or more item that has a texture that can be imprinted on the plate for example: a comb, bubble wrap, potato masher, old rubber stamps of flowers the bottom of a sneaker or older shoe, child’s alphabet blocks, burlap string, chop sticks, leaves, artificial flowers …Happy Gelli Printing
