Subject: Saturday, September 17, 5pm-6pm: Symphony Village Bipartisan Meet & Greet

On Saturday, September 17, at 5 pm, please join your neighbors to meet the Town of Centreville Council candidates: Jim Beauchamp, Tim McCluskey, Dan Worth, and incumbent Jeff Kiel. The more informed we are as voters, the better the outcome!

On September 17, each candidate’s (10-minute) speech will entail how they plan to serve Centreville and our community and may address important future topics such as water and sewer costs, taxes, fiber optic installation, and any priorities or new ideas they have for the Town. After each candidate has spoken, residents will have the opportunity to talk with them candidly on a one-to-one basis at the candidate’s designated table. The candidates may also join social hour, at 6 pm, to allow you the opportunity to talk with them further.

Please mark your calendars!
Date: Saturday, September 17
Time: 5 pm – 6 pm (Social hour will begin at 6 pm, as scheduled.)
Location: Clubhouse – Concert Hall

Candidates’ backgrounds are provided below:

Jim Beauchamp: I previously served on the Town Council from 2013 to 2019. My wife and I live in the Providence Farm neighborhood, our daughter lives in The Heights, and my in-laws live in Symphony Village. My professional career spans almost 40 years, with a foundation in accounting and financial management. For the last several years, I have embarked on an encore career in public service – including the elected office in Centreville and professional employment at the municipal, county, and state levels.

Tim McCluskey: My wife, Kellen, and I moved to Centreville in 2006 from Boulder, CO. We are raising our three children here. I am currently employed and have enjoyed a 25-year career in technology consulting and leadership. I was on the Town Council of Centreville from 2009-2021 and was Council President in 2011, 2015, 2017, and 2021. During my time on the Council, my priorities were fiscal discipline, improving our crumbling infrastructure, providing our families with safe trails, parks, and playgrounds, and establishing a wide variety of cultural and community events. I helped seamlessly transition to the Council of five members. As a result of these priorities, our Town is stronger than ever, but there are challenges ahead. Although I have not been on the Council for the past year, I have continued to closely monitor the issues and decisions affecting Centreville and the Symphony Village Community. Because of my experience on the Council, I am uniquely positioned to address issues like growth, transparency, wastewater treatment plant expansion, and water meter technology upgrades. I hope I can count on your support in the upcoming Town election.

Dan Worth: I moved to Centreville right before Symphony Village was approved. At that time, a new wastewater treatment plant was being constructed – one that we are still paying for with our ever-increasing water bills. We are about to embark on an upgrade to the existing plant that will cost $15-$20 million. My engineering experience will come in handy as will my grasp of financial details. I am disappointed in what has been perceived as an arrogant approach to building a radio tower in the middle of your development. I want to improve the transparency of the Town government and improve oversight of such projects by the Town Council. My goal is to hear more from you than from me during the meet and greet. I can be contacted at dtworth@PROTECTED or (410) 490-3510 if you have questions or concerns about me or the Town Government.

Jeff Kiel: I apologize for not being able to attend the Symphony Village meeting on September 17. I signed up for an assignment several months ago through the Department of Emergency Services to work in a transport unit for the "Ironman" competition in Dorchester County.

I have been a resident of Centreville since 2000. I grew up on Kent Island and graduated from Queen Anne's County High School. I am married and have three adult step-children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. I have been a member of Goodwill Fire Company since 2005 and served in several different capacities. I am currently on the Board of Directors. I work for the Queen Anne's County Department of Emergency Services providing care and transport to citizens. My title is EMT/Firefighter. Prior to working in Emergency Services, I was a Construction Inspector for the Queen Anne's County Roads Department. I have approximately 21 years of service in both departments. Since 1993 I have also managed my own lawn care business, TK's Lawn Service.

Serving on the Town Council has been a rewarding experience. I was new to Town Government and excited to learn all aspects of serving on the Council. These 2 years have flown by and I feel as if I am just getting started. To see our town move forward, I feel we need "smart" growth - not "overgrowth." We have an aging infrastructure problem with approximately 21 streets that need to be completely reconstructed. This includes water/sewer lines, curb, gutter, sidewalks, and roadway. In addition to those 21 roads, there are other areas that have aging water and sewer lines that need to be replaced - as well as an aging sewer plant that needs to be updated. In addition, we are working on the new water meter installation which provides a streamlined process to read the meters and is more cost-effective. We are currently working on funding for the sewer plant and road projects through grants from the state and federal governments. This is why it is my desire to plan for the financial stability of the Town of Centreville. Funding needs to be in place for future Councils to adequately run the town. Please feel free to contact me at 410-490-2950 or email, jeffkiel88@PROTECTED, with any questions, or ideas, or to offer support.

Again, I apologize for missing this very important meeting. I hope to see everyone at the Candidates Forum on Tuesday, September 20th, at 7 pm held at the Vincit Building. Please come with questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability.
